Why do photography? What makes me different?

Art is my true passion.

Even in first grade, I would reply Artist every time I was asked "What do you want to be when you grow up?" That dream never died, and even though my main work is in engineering & management, I insisted on pursuing my passion.

The medium was difficult to choose. I tried monoprinting (too expensive) and drawing (too time consuming) for visual arts, as well as jewelry making (see HOLTIV). I was unexpectedly pulled into modeling for various businesses, but was always edited to fit conventional beauty standards. While I dislike Photoshopping a person's unique features out, I fell in love with photo manipulation, where I can highlight more meaningful features.

Rarely do photographers skip editing *flaws* & focus on highlighting what makes you - YOU.
I will edit temporary features (pimples, blemishes, awkwardness postures) or eye/hair color for artistic effects, but I firmly believe in staying away from your unique features - facial structure, eye shape, body type, etc. Those are features that you are born with & cannot change without surgery, so there is no reason to change. Conventional beauty standards vary greatly, based on culture and era. Chances are, you look like a god or goddess to a civilization at some point! 

Besides, looks are secondary. Photography gives you a chance to visually capture features of you as a person - passions, hobbies, interests, talents, successes, love.

We can take advantage of that.
